The Paris-based association Reporters Without Borders (RSF) was banned today from using a world-famous image of the revolutionary leader Che Guevara in a campaign against human rights abuses in Cuba. The daughter of late photographer Alberto Diaz-Gutierrez - better known as Korda - applied to the courts after his iconic 1960 head-shot Che Guevara, bearded and sporting a beret, was doctored to show him wielding a club and shield.
Last week at Paris's Charles De Gaulle airport RSF handed out postcards bearing the image accompanied by the slogan, "Welcome to Cuba, the world's biggest prison for journalists". The civil court ordered RSF to remove the image from a planned poster campaign and from its Internet site, and told the association to pay damages of € 1,000 to Korda's daughter, Diane Diaz-Lopez.
